Introduction

The Crucible, an arena for the most determined and battle hardened pilots.

Jon Zebedi who originally built The Crucible Originally built by the master pilot Jon Zebedi, Jon had three older siblings who were intellectually and academically superior to him, much to the dismay of his parents Jon took to the piloting like rations to workers. Jon left for the stars, bitter about his siblings and determined to prove his worth. He quickly built a reputation as a skilled pilot and mercenary. Mostly unknown, but John even occasionally took high-risk work for Earthforce. Eventually, like everyone else, Jon became old. Jon reminisced about his youth and the lengths he went to demonstrate and improve his skills at which point Jon decided to build a special arena for combat, The Crucible. With the assistance of some advanced technology, after finding the right star, Jon setup a wormhole link and surrounded the star to bring his idea to reality.

Layout

The layout of The Crucible is quite simple. When you first enter you'll be in a small lobby, here there will be copies of this book in case you wanted to reread it quickly. After this is the arena, in the centre there is a A class Sun about 2,000 clicks away and a special drone near the wormhole.

The Crucible is broken up into six stages of 24 waves, each stage consist of around four waves, the last wave additionally having a boss. A wave could be thought of being a bit like a Dungeon Galaxy, except that there could be upto 12 enemies unlike a conventional DG. To progress to the next wave you must clear the current wave. There is a 30 second grace period between waves and a 60 second grace period between stages, you can skip over this period by flying to the aforementioned special drone located a short distance from the wormhole.

Each combat specialization has their own AI set and rewards. To take part in The Crucible you must first have one of the missions available from the Arena Lobby. The missions let you start at a particular stage and you can do it as much as you like.

Rules

The Crucible has a few simple rules, which will be listed below:

Pilots must contend as an individual, you aren't allowed to bring others with you.

Pilots are allowed to use computerized conterparts, i.e: Slaves, drones, missiles and fighters.

Pilots are not allowed to leave the arena while combat is in progress.

Leaving the arena will reset your progress in the current stage.

There is no requirement to stay within ring of pillars.

Rewards

Each stage has an associated reward, a device for your specilization. In total there are three different devices for each specialization, a normal version and an advanced version.

You can obtain each device as many times as you like, but you can't trade them. They are bound to your neural patterns and others won't be able to use them, so if you want them, you'll have to prove your worth. Additionally you can only have one of each type equipped at a time to particular ship.
